Job description

The Assistant Director supports the Director of Facilities or Plant Operations by managing building maintenance, grounds, clinical engineering, safety programs, and physical renovations. Oversees daily building operations, safety compliance, and physical plant maintenance to ensure a safe environment for patient care. Assists Director in maintaining continuous readiness for health-care regulations and manage teams of technicians and external contractors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain readiness for unannounced inspections by groups like CIHQ, OSHA, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
  • Operations & Maintenance: Oversee the repair and upkeep of critical hospital infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems.
  • Safety & Emergency Management: Lead safety committees, coordinate disaster management plans, and run emergency preparedness drills.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervise, train, and evaluate facility maintenance staff and outside vendors.
  • Budget Management: Assist with operating budgets, capital improvement projects, and cost-control tracking.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years of facilities operations experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Skills: Knowledge of building codes, life safety codes, and strong administrative and problem-solving abilities.
