Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the Provider and LPN in the daily clinical and clerical operations of the Podiatry Clinic. The medical assistant is expected to provide care to patients and perform duties under the direction of the clinic provider, performing routine, technical clinical/clerical duties and assist with other related duties involved in providing patient care. Demonstrates ethical and appropriate clinical behavior for the clinic environment to include (but no be limited to) respect for the patient; dignity; rights; age and other specific care needs; and maintenance of confidentiality of information. Work performed to include radiographic procedures under the administrative supervision of a licensed physician. First point of contact for all patients, other doctor's and those with whom we have other business or professional relationships. Assumes responsibility for patient check-in process; also, telephone attendant relaying incoming and outgoing calls.

Works inside under normal temperature conditions with adequate light, in a well-ventilated, clean area; some areas are limited in space; usually works around others; must expect some moderate noise.
  1. No unusual hazard risks; may be exposed to muscular strain in supporting, lifting, and assisting patients.
  2. Conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and on-the-job injuries.

This position has an OSHA Category I level of exposure to blood and body substances. Category I tasks are all procedures or other job-related tasks involving an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or body tissues or a potential for spills or splashes with blood, body fluids or tissues. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Ensures all applicable regulatory requirements and governing practices are followed.
  • Promptly attends work as scheduled and completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines & protocols within the appropriate time frame
  • Works cooperatively and respectfully with other personnel, showing a spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Willingness to assist other clinics as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the patient's medical condition, personal problems, and medical record.
  • Shows initiative in completing job responsibilities.
  • Is neat, clean, and dressed according to the Dress Code Policy.
  • Works cooperatively and respectfully with other personnel, showing a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Demonstrates good skills in all forms of communication.
  • Checking in patient and gathering of information needed from medical history, medication list, drug allergies, past surgeries, vital signs, and history of present illness, documenting finding in the EMR.
  • Performing routine lab test as ordered by physician
  • Performing blood draws for routine labs and preparing labs to be sent out for testing.
  • Administering medications and performing injections as ordered by providers.
  • Assisting provider with wound care, dressing changes, procedures and placing orders under their direction, specifically relating to the foot and ankle region.
  • Assisting with clerical duties as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Interpersonal skills- including customer relations, grammar, reading, and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform and read test results
  • Ability to perform vital sign and knowledge of ranges
  • Ability to adapt to new procedures
  • Knowledge of prior EMR systems preferred but not required

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Maintains certification with your board.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, lift, balance, sit, kneel, hear, reach, pull, talk, see, turn, carry, push, handle and write. This job requires you to reach above the head, push/pull 5 lbs, lift/carry up to 15 lbs, and lift from floor to waist level.
