Job description

HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: Full-time position - 40 hours weekly.  Monday - Friday 10:00 am – 6:30 pm.   

GENERAL SUMMARY

The laundry worker picks up linen from chute areas, pre-sorts linens, washes linen, folds linen, processes linen, uses flat ironer, weighs linen, records loads, and delivers linen to proper stations.  Also all old, badly stained or ripped linen should be discarded. 

GIBSON AREA HOSPITAL & HEALTH SERVICES MISSION STATEMENT

To provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the Communities we serve.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Collects soiled linen from laundry chutes and pre-sorts linen.

2.    Delivers linen to assigned areas and returns empty carts.

3.    Inspects linen for wear, tears, and stains.

4.    Keeps machinery and area in a clean and neat condition.

5.    Loads linen carts and records the weight of the carts. 

6.    Washes and dries linen.

7.    Folds linen and uses a flat ironer.

8.    Performs other tasks which may be assigned. 


 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.    Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, kneel, and push carts.
2.    Physical strength to perform the following lifting demands:

•    Floor to waist - 30 pounds
•    14” to waist -30 pounds
•    Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
•    Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
•    Carry 30 pounds for 15 feet
•    Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
•    Pull 40 pounds/force for 30 feet

3.    Must be able to work in heat for short periods of time.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Laundry Supervisor.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1.    Prefer a high school graduate or equivalent.

2.    Must have good hand, eye dexterity in order to use mangle and accomplish linen folds. 

INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL

Category I – Maximal Risk – This job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis.  It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1.    Working in extreme heat.

2.    Must be able to tolerate moderate to heavy lifting.

3.    This job has repetitive motion throughout the day.
