The Milwaukee YMCA is currently hiring for full-time lifeguards for our resident camp in Hubertus, WI.
Job Description
Under the direction of the Waterfront Director, and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, a Lifeguard is responsible for the overall safety and supervision of the pool and lake.
Lifeguards are responsible for politely enforcing policies; they will be aware of and promote the YMCA programs and philosophy.
Qualifications
  • This position requires certification in nationally recognized Lifeguarding (ARC), current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and Standard First Aid certifications.
  • Individuals hired without ARC lifeguarding (but have an equivalent certification) must complete the ARC lifeguard review course within 90 days of employment.
  • They must be able to pass a water skills test consisting of a 300-yard swim, 2 minutes of treading water, and perform all rescue skills at a competent level.
  • Lifeguards must be friendly, consistent, and assertive.
  • The incumbent will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain rescue skills through skill practice.
  • Respond to rescue needs according to standard of care.
  • Provide unrelenting member service.
  • Model and uphold Character Development Program and departmental policies and procedures as established by the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee and YMCA Camp Minikani.
  • Adhere to center/departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Be proactive in the prevention of pool/lake incidents.
  • Knowledgeable and able to interpret and enforce all rules and regulations.
  • Attend all required in-services/meetings and keep all certifications current.
  • Maintain vigilance at all times
  • Keep pool and lake area clean and organized.
  • Know and model the YMCA's staff pledge.
  • Arrive promptly for scheduled shifts in designated uniform.
  • Uphold and exemplify the principles of the YMCA Staff Pledge.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time in a hot, humid environment.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records as required by supervisor.
  • Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee's Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
  • All other duties as assigned.
