Job description

Lifeguard Position

The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC offers an engaging and inclusive workplace where your work truly makes a difference. As a Lifeguard, you are responsible for the safety of all program participants within the pool area. We are currently seeking lifeguards for various shifts, including high-priority opening shifts. Special Shift Incentive We have a specific need for Opening Morning Shifts (4:45am – 7:00am). To recognize the early start, these hours are paid at $5/hour more than non-opening hours.

What can you expect from a typical day:

  • Surveil and visually scan assigned areas every 30 seconds.
  • Monitor activities and prevent accidents using various stations (walking/roving or lifeguard stands).
  • Respond to all illness and injury incidents immediately; perform First Aid, CPR, and rescues as required by your training.
  • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and professionally enforce pool rules.
  • Update information boards and provide general pool operation info to members.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings and departmental trainings.

What will you need to be successful:

  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Ability to meet swim requirements: 150-yard swim, 2-minute tread (no hands), plus an additional 50-yard swim.
  • Brick Retrieval: Swim 20 yards, retrieve a brick from the deep end, and swim 20 yards back with both hands on the brick.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification (preferred); history in rescue work, CPR, and First Aid (preferred).
