Position Summary
The Digital Pattern Maker at Design Foundry plays a critical role in transforming product concepts into production-ready patterns that ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in upholstered furniture manufacturing. This position requires strong technical expertise with style number creation, digital tools, and physical pattern development, as well as a collaborative spirit aligned with Design Foundry’s core values: We Are Family, We Own It, We Give Our All, and We Have Fun.

Essential Functions

  • Pattern Development & Documentation
    • Create and manage style numbers and F# identifiers for new and existing products.
    • Develop accurate fabric and leather patterns tailored to upholstery applications.
    • Clean up and finalize digitized patterns for production accuracy.
    • Produce Morgan and Lectra markers to optimize fabric utilization and minimize waste.
    • Generate plastic patterns for denim and other specialty fabrics.
    • Prepare detailed sew note cushion pattern images and flat work pattern images for manufacturing clarity.
    • Ensure that specifications (spec sheets, construction details) are prepared and distributed to appropriate teams.
  • Collaboration & Process Alignment
    • Partner with Product Development, Upholstery, Cutting and Sewing teams to ensure patterns meet design intent, durability standards, and manufacturing efficiency goals.
    • Work closely with Quality and Production to troubleshoot issues and continuously improve fit, form, and function.
    • Support cross-functional collaboration to align patterns with operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Maintain digital pattern libraries and documentation for accuracy and traceability.
    • Contribute to lean initiatives by seeking efficiencies in fabric usage, time, and process.
    • Provide feedback on product design for manufacturability and ease of upholstery application.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Pattern Maker in upholstered furniture or related manufacturing environment required.
  • Proficiency in digital pattern software such as Morgan MD Pattern Design and Lectra Formaris
  • Strong knowledge of upholstery construction, fabrics, leathers, and cutting/sewing processes.
  • Attention to detail with proven ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in pattern creation.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and uphold Design Foundry’s culture of teamwork and accountability.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to handle fabrics, plastics, and pattern materials in a production environment.
  • Exposure to a fast-paced manufacturing floor environment with moderate noise levels.
