Job description

Our Mission:
Driving technology always feels old. Not by a little bit. We believe vehicles can be a thousand times smarter, safer, and more connected to the world around us, and our mission is to see it happen. In 2019, we joined forces with Honda as their first startup acquisition, and now we’re expanding our vision into building the future of electric vehicles (BEV) for millions of people around the world.

Why Drivemode:
Join Drivemode for an exciting startup environment and a vibrant culture that combines impactful work, competitive compensation, and excellent benefits. By becoming a part of our team, you'll contribute to a crucial mission that revolutionizes the way people engage with vehicles, addressing both business needs and the world's environmental challenges. This presents an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation and drive Honda's success in the EV market.

About the Role:
The Software Engineering manager will lead a team of cross-disciplinary mobile engineers to develop a companion app for Honda’s next generation of EVs. We’re using modern technologies including Kotlin Multiplatform, Jetpack Compose, and SwiftUI to develop cutting edge automotive features.

We’re looking for someone who has a strong sense of ownership over product features, is enthusiastic about trying new technologies, and does not hesitate to do whatever it takes to get things done - even if outside your usual responsibilities.
What you will do:
  • Support a team of 8-10 direct reports, including coaching, guiding their growth, and taking responsibility for their performance and work quality
  • Work closely with UX Design, Quality Assurance, Product, Backend, and TPM teams to plan and perfect delightful features for Honda drivers
  • Bridge teams with our parent company, Honda, for smoother operations and communication
  • Elevate the performance of the team by establishing clear priorities and streamlining processes around Agile
  • Recruit mobile software engineers to scale our team
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
  • 1+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or other management role, having managed teams of 3 or more engineers
  • Experience with mobile app development in one or more of these technologies: iOS, Android, and cross-platform technologies
  • Experience delivering large projects spanning multiple teams
  • Experience in running engineering projects with Agile / Scrum methodologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Travel about 10% to 20% of the time (Japan, LA, or Columbus)
Nice to have:
  • IoT, connected experiences, etc.
  • Android Automotive
  • Ultra Wideband (UWB) and/or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) experience
  • Kotlin Multiplatform
This is the position's total compensation package, including the company's bonus structure. This position also comes with full benefits. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors. We welcome direct conversations with each candidate about compensation in all of our initial calls.
