The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position with a 9-month academic appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. We are interested in recruiting talented researchers in the field of spinal cord injury research. The successful candidate will bring a robust research program that couples in vivo behavioral/physiological work with cutting-edge tools in neuroscience. The successful candidate will complement the department's existing strengths in topic areas such as neural plasticity, imaging, neural-engineering applications, psychological adjustment, and rehabilitation.
This position represents the second phase of a growth initiative in the area supported by TIRR Foundation to increase the breadth and impact of spinal cord injury research at Texas A&M University. The successful candidate will join a rich community of spinal cord injury research in the Texas A&M Spinal Cord Initiative (TAMSCI): a group of nine research labs spanning basic and translational to veterinary and human clinical research. TAMSCI is affiliated with Mission Connect, a collaborative Texas neurotrauma research consortium of scientists from over a dozen Texas research institutions and the Texas Medical Center.
Applicants should have an outstanding record of research achievement, demonstrated potential for extramural research funding, and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring in psychology and neuroscience. The successful candidate will engage in research, grant applications, and funded projects; teach courses in our graduate and undergraduate programs; and act as an engaged citizen of the department, college, university, and their field. We seek candidates who are well-positioned to publish in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals in their fields and to obtain grants from federal agencies and/or private foundations. Typical teaching loads for the department are 3 courses per year, distributed across undergraduate and graduate programs; evidence of teaching effectiveness is a plus.
The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Texas A&M University is a community of scholars committed to generating scientific discoveries in the discipline, providing rigorous and inspiring undergraduate and graduate education, and engaging in outreach about psychology and the application of psychological sciences. Many faculty in the department are also affiliated with the interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience (TAMIN).
We offer doctoral programs in clinical psychology, cognition and cognitive neuroscience, social and personality psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, and behavioral and cellular neuroscience, and a Master's program in industrial/organizational psychology. We also offer a BS-Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciece, as well and a BA and a BS in Psychology.
We currently have 50 full-time faculty, over 100 PhD students, and approximately 2,000 undergraduate majors. Qualifications
Ph.D in psychology, neuroscience or related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated potential for publishing high quality research in leading journals, writing and obtaining grants, and engaging in high quality teaching and mentoring activities.
