Overview
 
Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is searching for a Mid-Level Software Developer with C++ and Javascript to support National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This opportunity is full time and onsite at the NCBI in Bethesda, MD. The NCBI Taxonomy covers information on the names of nearly half a million species across all domains of life and plays an essential role in organizing information across resources at NCBI and its international partners.  The Software Developer will work on solutions to support continued development of associated resources at NCBI.

Duties & Responsibilities
 
  • Participate in development, implementation, testing, and continued maintenance of NCBI Taxonomy Information System. 
  • Work with a diverse group of scientists, bioinformaticians and other developers to support and improve the Taxonomy project at NCBI. 
  • Learn new technologies, keep up with the internal systems, and share knowledge with the team. 
  • Proficiency in C++ and JavaScript 
  • Experience working in a distributed computing environment 
  • Programming experience in a Linux environment 
  • Experience with relational databases, Microsoft SQL or similar 
  • Experience with Linux shell scripts 

Educational Requirements
 
  • BS in Computer Science 

Requirements
 
  • 3 years+ of relevant work experience 
  • Proficiency in C++ and JavaScript 
  • Experience working in a distributed computing environment 
  • Programming experience in a Linux environment 
  • Experience with relational databases, Microsoft SQL or similar
