Job Title: Locksmith II

Department: Maintenance - Corrections

Reports To: Chief Maintenance Engineer

Classification: Non-Exempt


Position Summary

The Locksmith shall be responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection, testing, etc., on all locks, keys, electronic security systems, security detention systems, and life safety systems and components of the facility. This position shall also assist the Electronics Security Technician and Electrician, as necessary, in the preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection, testing, etc. of all electrical systems and components of the facility.


Essential Functions:

  • Installs locks, hardware, and security systems in existing buildings and new construction
  • Disassembles and troubleshoots problems with locks and hardware
  • Repairs existing locks and hardware
  • Re-keys and replaces locks and hardware as needed
  • Ensure security systems are working correctly
  • Fabrication and accountability of all interior and exterior general use and security access keys, if applicable
  • Maintain master/sub-master key systems
  • Repair or replacement of all interior and exterior door lock cylinders
  • Coordinate outside contractors for contract work on associated systems when necessary
  • Assist other trades where necessary
  • Completes corrective and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of locks, hardware, and security systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and building plans.

Technical Skills:

  • Understand and abide by all applicable Safety Data Sheets (SDS) procedures
  • Understand and abide by all Lock Out Tag Out procedures

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of professional experience relative to the role.

Preferred

  • Licensing/Certification in applicable trade and jurisdiction

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with normal working hours Monday through Friday, working 40 hours per week. However, as business needs become necessary, after-hours, holidays, or weekends may be required.

No supervisory duties for this position.

Work Environment

This position is located within a correctional facility. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions. Must be able to work in hazardous conditions while maintaining safety standards, work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, industrial settings, and construction sites, and work in loud environments and temperature extremes.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Essential functions of this position require: manual dexterity, large motor skills, ability to communicate, lifting, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, climbing (including but not limited to ladders), crawling, stooping, turning/twisting, balancing, reaching with varying frequencies.

Heavy work: Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds, Frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10-20 pounds.

Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills are important.
