We are seeking an experienced Employment Immigration Associate to join the Immigration Practice Group of HunterMaclean. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience managing complex employment-based immigration matters for corporate clients ranging from startups to multinational organizations. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with sophisticated clients, supervise paralegal staff, develop client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of the firm's immigration practice.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong legal writing skills, exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining excellent client service. Our firm is technological centered. Employees are required to attend training courses with our in-house trainer. We are actively looking for employees who will proactively use the technology and other firm resources available to problem solve and continue to improve their work.
Duties:
• Independently manage a broad range of employment-based immigration matters from initiation through completion.
• Prepare, review, and file nonimmigrant visa petitions, including but not limited to H-1B, L-1, TN, E-3, O-1, and E visa classifications and associated dependent applications where applicable.
• Prepare and oversee immigrant visa petitions, including PERM labor certifications, EB-1, EB-2, EB-3, National Interest Waiver (NIW), Physician National Interest Waiver (PNIW), and related adjustment of status applications.
• Prepare, review, and file family-based immigrant petitions, including but not limited to I-130, I-129F, related adjustment of status applications, and separate employment and travel authorization applications.
• Prepare, review, file, and oversee J-1 waiver applications (IGA and State Health Agency: Conrad, ARC, SCRC, and HHS)
• Advise corporate clients regarding immigration strategies, compliance obligations, workforce planning, and global mobility matters.
• Conduct legal research and prepare complex legal analyses, opinion letters, and responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs), Notices of Intent to Deny (NOIDs), and audits.
• Counsel clients on I-9 compliance, E-Verify, work authorization, and immigration-related employment issues.
• Manage high-volume casework while ensuring adherence to deadlines and quality standards.
• Supervise and mentor paralegals and legal assistants assigned to immigration matters.
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding case strategy, timelines, risks, and regulatory developments.
• Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on immigration matters impacting employment, corporate transactions, and labor and employment issues.
• Participate in business development initiatives, client presentations, webinars, articles, and networking activities.
• Meet the required billable time requirement of the firm.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing employment-based immigration law.
• Demonstrated experience handling a full range of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa matters.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration laws, regulations, and agency procedures, including USCIS, Department of Labor, Department of State, and CBP processes.
• Experience advising corporate employers across various industries.
• Excellent legal writing, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience supervising support staff and managing workflow is preferred.
• Business development experience and existing client relationships are a plus.
• Experience with high-volume corporate immigration practice.
• Familiarity with immigration case management software and electronic filing systems.
• Experience counseling clients on compliance matters, including I-9 audits and immigration-related employment issues.
• Multilingual abilities are a plus.
