Job description


The University of Tennessee Health Sciences is seeking candidates to be the Clinical Coordinator for the Pathologists' Assistant (Patha) Program, in the College of Health Professions, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences. The position is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank. The Clinical Coordinator's responsibilities in the PathA program include managing the clinical rotation sites, maintaining affiliation agreements, writing and implementing the clinical rotation schedules, sending and maintaining the clinical handbook, distributing and collecting student and liaison clinical rotation evaluations, and recruiting new clinical rotation sites. This faculty member will participate in teaching, scholarship, and service/administration, as well as participate in the admissions process and serve as a member of the Progress and Promotion Committee for the PathA program.
Responsibilities
The Clinical Coordinator will develop and teach the following courses within the PathA program:
  • Human Physiology for Pathologists' Assistants (MSPA 515) course- primary Instructor.
  • One of the Pathologists' Assistant Seminar courses (MSPA 514 or 534)- primary Instructor.
  • Pathologists Assistant Practicum I-II clinical rotation courses (MSPA 613, 622)- primary Instructor.
  • Human Anatomy lab, Introduction to Surgical and Autopsy Pathology lab- secondary Instructor.
  • Additional lectures and lab as assigned or desired.

Clinical Coordinator will be expected to recruit students, participate in scholarly activities, professional service and other activities assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Chair.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Master's Degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATION: Current ASCP certification as a Pathologist's Assistant; or a PhD. in a related field of study with an ASCP certification.
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:
Applicants must have and demonstrate up-to-date clinical knowledge and experience in laboratory medicine both in theory and practice in Pathologists' Assistants. Strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills including communication, problem solving, student coaching, conflict management, and follow-through, are required. Previous didactic and clinical teaching experience is preferred.
