II. GENERAL SUMMARY: The role of the Clinical Informaticist is to provide clinical informatics education and support to individuals, clinicians, departments and agencies that are a part of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Participates in the assessment of needs pertaining to clinical information systems, including hardware, software, staff development and management support. Supports care area teams through the development and refinement of clinical designs including process flows, order sets, decision support, analytic reporting, and documentation templates.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.
III. DESCRIPTION:
Duties and Responsibilities:
20 % of Time Spent
Takes a leadership role in the analysis of clinical and nursing workflows. Analysis may include data collection, statistical analysis, flowcharting cause and effect determination, documentation of system/process gaps, recommendation for contingency plans and planning and execution of key project phases, such as user validation testing, process simulation
and end-user support. Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple and ever-changing priorities.
20% of Time Spent
Delivers and facilitates the educational process to engage physicians and other clinicians to ensure they have the information they need to be successful with the new applications, including creating a safe environment while learning the system, demonstration of the system, guidance throughout the learning process, aid in coaching the learner as they learn and following up with aids and support.

Facilitates effective integration of clinical information systems with other improvement initiatives that will enhance patient care. Participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients including the active support of organizational quality improvement initiatives.
20% of Time Spent
Collaborates with the Clinical Informatics team to ensure regulatory compliance program goals or are met. Acts as a change agent for nursing, physicians and all ancillary departments while promoting positive acceptance of the clinical information system and maintaining regulatory requirements.

Functions as an admin to associated clinical applications.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains ongoing dialogue with the Director of Clinical Informatics regarding ongoing projects and patient critical issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees and visitors at Insight Hospital and Medical Center
  • Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner. Report all potential hazards and unsafe practices including near misses and actual errors.

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONS
A. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Masters in health informatics
  • Prior experience with an EMR required.
  • A minimum 2 years' experience in a hospital or clinical setting
  • Knowledge of and experience with change management and/or project planning

Skills:
  • Excellent organizational, advanced analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills •
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the electronic medical record management •
  • Experience in managing performance/business process improvement activities, including clinical workflow processes utilizing PDCA, Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous process improvement methodologies.

Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate within all levels of the organization. •
  • Ability to shape results, garner support and successfully manage complex relationships. •
  • Ability to manage multiple and ever-changing priories in a highly autonomous self-directed manner. •
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail for over 90% of work time.
