Job description

Overview

Be the visual storyteller behind one of the Army's premier educational institutions - from the camera lens to the printed page to the front-lobby display. The U.S. Army Command and General Staff College is seeking a versatile Graphic Designer to deliver high-quality photography, printed materials, and information graphics that showcase the college's people and mission. This role covers a broad range of visual media responsibilities, including event photography, printed information products, information graphics design, and daily operation of the command headquarters' internal information display. The Graphic Designer will work closely with the CGSC Public Affairs Office to ensure all products are professional, accurate, and delivered on tight deadlines.

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM at Fort Leavenworth, KS.

Responsibilities

Graphic Design

  • Research, design, and produce printed products, such as brochures, flyers, programs, and handouts
  • Develop a concept and proposed timeline and submit for approval
  • Design products using AdobeCreative Suite and/or Micorsoft Office software
  • Ensure all products are free of errors and consistent with AP Stylebook conventions
  • Research, design, and produce information graphics from raw data or government-provided drafts
  • Perform daily start-up, preparation, and loading of display content no later than 30 minutes after the start of each business day
  • Prepare and schedule welcome messages for key visitors as directed
  • Monitor the display system to ensure sustained operation and report any errors or issues promptly

Photography

  • Provide photographic coverage of CGSC and subordinate-unit events (graduations, VIP visits, award ceremonies, staff/student photos, etc.)
  • Ensure photos are reviewed, selected, and ready for use or public release within 6 hours of the event
  • Process images using Adobe Photoshop or similar professional software
  • Store finalized images to the DVIDs platform within 24 hours of the event

General

  • Maintain organized digital storage and easy retrieval of all photo, print, and graphic assets
  • Support occasional events outside normal work hours (approximately six times per year)
  • Contribute input to monthly status reports on task progress and deliverables
Qualifications

Required:ย 

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in photography and/or graphic design
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and/or Microsoft Publisher
  • Strong eye for composition, editing, and visual storytelling
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines across different product types
  • Ability to pass background checks and maintain a favorable Tier 1 (T1) suitability determination
  • Portfolio demonstrating past design and photography work

Desired:ย 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience supporting military, government, or other public affairs/communications organizations
  • Familiarity with AP Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law standards
  • Familiarity with digital signage or AV display systems
