Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Fire Protection Estimator is responsible for analyzing blueprints and other documentation to prepare accurate cost, material, and labor estimates for commercial fire sprinkler systems.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Understand Project Scope: Review fire protection specifications, blueprints, and project documentation. Discuss design requirements and estimates with the salesperson and client.
- Prepare Fire Sprinkler Estimates: Utilize specialized estimating software to detail material costs (pipe, sprinkler heads, valves), obtain vendor bids, and forecast accurate labor.
- Take-Offs & Cost Analysis: Perform detailed material take-offs from drawings. Assist Project Managers in forecasting cost-at-completion.
- Turnovers: Prepare thorough project documentation, participate in kick-off meetings, and assist in the preparation of initial project layouts and drawings.
- Maintain Estimating Systems: Perform periodic reviews of actual vs. estimated costs to adjust and improve pricing database accuracy.
- Bid Tracer: Enter bid requests and communicate bid participation to customers and general contractors.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED; college degree or trade/technical schooling preferred.
- Experience: 1+ years of estimating experience, specifically with fire sprinkler systems, piping, or fire suppression components.
- Skills: Strong blueprint reading skills and proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Certificates/Licenses: Valid Driverโs License.
- Physical Job Requirements: Ability to move throughout the office, construction job sites, and general outdoor environments.
