Job description

We are seeking professional Security Guards / Fire Watch Officers for a New Jersey construction site. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, conducting fire watch patrols, monitoring site activity, controlling access, and reporting all safety or security concerns.
For this assignment, a valid New Jersey SORA certification is required. Candidates must have fire watch experience, fire watch training, or prior construction-site safety/security experience. Officers must be able to identify fire hazards, maintain fire watch logs, follow emergency procedures, and immediately report unsafe conditions.
The ideal candidate is reliable, alert, professional, and experienced in construction site security, fire watch, access control, public safety, and incident reporting.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct fire watch patrols throughout the construction site as assigned
  • Monitor the premises and maintain a visible security presence
  • Identify and report fire hazards, unsafe conditions, unauthorized access, or suspicious activity
  • Monitor for hot work, blocked exits, smoke, sparks, flammable materials, and other fire risks
  • Check stairwells, exits, equipment areas, storage areas, restricted zones, and active construction areas
  • Monitor entrances and exits and ensure only authorized personnel enter the site
  • Verify workers, visitors, vendors, and contractors according to site procedures
  • Maintain access control logs, visitor logs, fire watch logs, and daily activity reports
  • Respond to safety concerns, suspicious activity, and emergency situations
  • Notify supervisors, site management, emergency services, or the local Fire Official when required
  • Assist with emergency procedures, evacuation support, and incident response when necessary
  • Monitor surveillance cameras or site equipment when applicable
  • Follow all company policies, client site rules, construction safety procedures, and emergency protocols
Qualifications
  • Valid New Jersey SORA certification required
  • Fire watch experience or fire watch training required
  • Prior construction-site security or site-safety experience preferred
  • Knowledge of basic fire watch procedures, patrols, reporting, and emergency notification
  • Ability to identify fire hazards, unsafe conditions, and unauthorized access
  • Ability to maintain accurate logs and written reports
  • Strong understanding of public safety and security procedures
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to remain alert and observant for long periods of time
  • Ability to patrol, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to follow instructions and work without direct supervision
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate radios, mobile reporting apps, surveillance equipment, or other site communication tools
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • New Jersey SORA Certification: Required
  • Fire Watch Experience or Fire Watch Training: Required
  • OSHA-10 Construction: Preferred
  • OSHA-30 Construction: Preferred for lead or supervisory assignments
  • First Aid/CPR/AED: Preferred
  • Fire Extinguisher Training: Preferred
  • Additional fire safety, construction safety, or emergency response certifications: Preferred

The following certifications are not automatically required for all New Jersey fire watch assignments but may be helpful depending on the client, site, or Authority Having Jurisdiction:
  • FDNY F-01 Fire Guard
  • FDNY F-60 Fire Guard for Torch Operations
  • FDNY S-60 Construction Site Watchperson
  • FDNY S-92 Portable Fueled Space Heaters at Construction Sites
  • FDNY S-93 Flammable/Combustible Liquids at Construction Sites
  • Firefighter I Certification
  • Any local fire watch, fire safety, or construction safety certification required by the client or Fire Official
Work Environment
This position is located on a New Jersey construction site. Officers must be comfortable working around construction activity, outdoor conditions, noise, equipment, and active work areas. Officers are expected to remain professional, visible, alert, and compliant with all site safety rules at all times.
Final assignment requirements may vary based on the client, project location, Port Authority requirements, local Fire Official, and site-specific safety plan. Additional certifications, background checks, badging, or training may be required before placement.
