Job description

The Hydaker-Wheatlake Company is looking to a hire a full-time Estimator II to join our growing team!

Essential Job Functions:

  • Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to understand the scope and requirements of utility construction projects.
  • Conduct site visits to gather relevant data and assess project conditions.
  • Utilize estimating software and industry knowledge to ensure precision in cost calculations.
  • Prepare comprehensive bids and proposals in response to RFP's (Request for Proposals) and other tender documents.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Work closely with project managers and superintendents to ensure that cost estimates align with budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate on value engineering and cost-saving measures without compromising project quality.
  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate contractual terms and conditions to ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to clarify project requirements and resolve inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all estimating activities.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and advancements in construction technology.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in: Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or have related field equivalent experience (Journeyman Lineman, Journeyman Substation Tech, etc).
  • Proven experience as an Estimator in the utility construction industry.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software (Oman, Sage, excel spreadsheets)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Project, Excel, Word, etc) and or Primavera P6
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Adherence to safety standards and regulations.
