  • The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", IT Department has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Epic Director Ambulatory/MyChart to work ON SITE in Miami
    The Epic Director Ambulatory/MyChart manages projects with support staff by giving them a clear understanding of the departmental mission and supervises and participates in work efforts in the design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support of the application. The Epic Director utilizes solid knowledge of hospital quality measures and clinical experience to build, develop, and test clinical applications in alignment with clinical practice and provide analysis on upcoming regulatory requirements. The incumbent works closely with various leaders to ensure technology is driven by clinical and operational needs and aligns with compliant and safe clinical practices and quality requirements.
    Core Responsibilities:
    • Supervises the performance management of all assigned staff including making decisions as they pertain to hiring, training, evaluation, promotion, and termination.
    • Manages daily operations and directs staff to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
    • Assumes responsibility for campus-wide initiatives involving computer support services.
    • Develops, promotes, and maintains standards as they relate to technical support services and devices, including manufacturing and architectural standards.
    • Designs improved work systems by revising work standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Directs and manages project plan development, risk assessment, communications, budget tracking, status reporting, vendor management, and successful project completion.
    • Monitors project prioritization, active projects, and the development of dashboard and reporting mechanisms.
    • Assumes responsibility for enterprise-wide IT projects and ensures an efficient and timely conclusion.
    • Contributes to the strategic plan and assists in providing short- and long-term solutions to help meet campus-wide strategic and tactical planning initiatives.
    • Communicates with administration and staff regarding the efficient and timely delivery of services.
    • Performs follow-up investigations on inquiries, complaints, and problems.
    • Assists in the determination of critical milestones.
    • Establishes departmental goals and objectives, identifies areas of improvement, and implements action plans to meet these.
    • Seeks ways to improve operations and oversees the preparation of productivity reports.
    • Attends professional meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars to keep abreast of technological market advancements.
    • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
    • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

    Department Specific Functions:
    As a Director of Epic Ambulatory/MyChart, you will report to the Executive Director - Ambulatory/Research Applications (currently CHAO) and will be responsible for:
    • Providing strategic and operational leadership for Epic Ambulatory applications, including but not limited to EpicCare Ambulatory, Kaleidoscope, Bones, MyChart, Care Everywhere, and EpicCare Link
    • Overseeing a team consisting of managers and analysts with Epic Ambulatory and MyChart specialty application experience
    • Leading a multi-disciplinary team in the design, implementation, workflow optimization, change management, support, and issue resolution related to the Epic Ambulatory and MyChart Specialty applications

    As a Director of Epic Ambulatory/MyChart, you will:
    • Provide leadership and direction on the design, implementation, build, testing, modification, and analysis of the Epic research application
    • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic initiatives, growth and expansion opportunities, and improving patient experiences and outcomes related to satisfaction and quality
    • Provide organizational knowledge and guidance for EpicCare Ambulatory/Kaleidoscope/Bones and MyChart/Care Everywhere/EpicCare Link teams to facilitate decision-making
    • Inform staff members of barriers, advancements, opportunities, and resource requirements to execute projects successfully
    • Manage staff and allocate resources as necessary
    • Manage scope, budget, schedule, and quality of projects
    • Establish a clear line of communication with clinical and business leaders
    • Maintain regular communication with team members and lead weekly project team meetings
    • Review the status of projects and issues on an ongoing basis with the team
    • Become knowledgeable about UHealth's policies, procedures, and business operations

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree in relevant field, Master's preferred
    • Epic Ambulatory/ MyChart Certifications
    • Minimum 7 years of experience preferably in healthcare or healthcare-related organization
    • Familiarity with physician practices' workflows, hospital outpatient departments and patient experience preferred
    • Familiarity with ophthalmology and/or orthopedic physician practices' workflows preferred
    • Understanding of a wide array of integration points, including scheduling, lab, radiology, billing, imaging, and inpatient clinical preferred
    • Familiarity with legal requirements and operational policies related to patient and family privacy practices preferred
    • Familiarity with current outside organization connection strategy preferred
    • Familiarity with community clinic relationships and how those groups interact (referrals, discharge to SNF, lab ordering, surgery scheduling, etc.) preferred
    • Familiarity with the non-clinical external groups that need to access information about certain patients and why they need the information preferred
    • Experience leading large teams of individuals and the ability to manage staff effectively
    • Strong communication and organizational skills
    • Past success with large-scale projects such as other software implementations, building projects, or other key initiatives
    • Able to logically examine, and interpret information from different sources to determine a problem's cause and develop a course of action to resolve the problem and to prevent its recurrence
    • Ability to gain trust and establish effective relationships with team members
    • Ability to persevere in difficult situations, overcome obstacles, and reach high levels of performance when faced with stressful work situations and time pressures
    • Knowledge of business and management principles.
    • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
    • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
    • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
    • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
