Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
In the School of Art, students study and practice visual art, art history, art education, and arts administration to develop the skills, knowledge, and critical awareness to thrive as artists, educators, scholars, and creative professionals. Students and faculty engage in a process of discovery that values art as a relational practice through material exploration and investigation of global artistic traditions, past and present. We cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful learning community that welcomes students at all levels of experience, empowering them to bring their whole identities into their creative work and to grow into confident, capable artists and thinkers. Through studio practice, research, and community engagement, the School of Art contributes to local, national, and international arts communities while modeling a more equitable and expansive future for the visual arts.
