Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, this individual will develop, prepare, and teach simulation and gaming courses in the areas of 3D modeling, 2D animation, simulation and game design and programming, character development, mobile programming, simulation/game engine design, simulation/game quality assurance, and HTML programming designed for career technical programs. The successful candidate will also be responsible for recruiting and advising students. The faculty member will collaborate with industry partners to ensure relevancy of the curriculum and provide necessary training and education. This person is responsible for facilitating the Simulation and Game Development Advisory Committee and serving as a member, as well as recruiting industry professionals to join the Advisory Committee.

  • Master's degree in Simulation and Game Development, Game Design, Digital Game Theory, Interactive Media, Digital Technologies, Computer Science, or related field and 18 graduate hours in Simulation and Game Development from an institutional accreditor.
Education Preferred
  • Doctoral degree in Simulation and Game Development, Game Design, Digital Game Theory, Interactive Media, Digital Technologies, Computer Science, or related field and 18 graduate hours in Simulation and Game Development from an institutional accreditor.
Experience Required
  • 3 years relevant industry experience in the games industry.
  • Teaching and/or industry training experience in simulation and game design topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
  • Experience with scripting in C#, visual scripting and/or other coding languages.
Experience Preferred
  • Greater than 3 years relevant industry experience in the games industry.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience in simulation and game design, such as Digital Game Creation, Game Theory, or Digital Game Art courses.
  • Experience with Unity, Unreal and/or other game engines.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and animation software, such as 3ds Max, Blender, Maya, or other graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or related software.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
