The Senior Data Engineer Designs, builds, and maintains data processing architectures and solutions enabling the efficient conversion of structured and unstructured data to insights at enterprise scale. The Senior Data Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The Senior Data Engineer Ingests data from internal and external sources utilizing cloud native platforms and software development best practices and patterns. Develops software tools that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data into insights and actions that enables Humana to better serve our members. Begins to influence department's strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze business and operational requirements and contribute to the design of systemlevel solutions supporting reporting, analytics, and datadriven processes.
  • Review existing applications, data pipelines, and data warehouse components to identify inefficiencies, integration gaps, or performance issues and recommend system improvements.
  • Design and support data ingestion and integration workflows, including batch and nearrealtime processing across internal and external data sources.
  • Participate in the implementation and modernization of data platforms, including migration or integration of legacy onpremise SQLbased environments with cloudbased platforms such as Databricks, in accordance with established architecture standards.
  • Develop and support data migration and system integration approaches to ensure reliable, secure, and accurate data movement across enterprise systems.
  • Work with business users, data engineers, and application teams to ensure system designs align with functional requirements and documented architecture guidelines.
  • Assist in evaluating technologies, tools, and frameworks used within assigned systems to support modernization and optimization efforts.
  • Coordinate with offshore and crossfunctional delivery teams to support execution of defined technical tasks, priorities, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor system behavior and data flows during deployment and production support, and analyze and resolve issues related to performance, availability, or data quality.
  • Maintain technical design documentation and adhere to established change management, governance, and escalation procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience applying specialized technical knowledge to analyze, integrate, or support information systems or data platforms in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience working with data integration, system modernization, or analytical reporting platforms.
  • Experience with modernizing large data engineering processes from on-prem to the cloud.
  • Experience with Databricks, SQL, PySpark, SparkSQL, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Azure Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Experience with Claude Code, Genie Code, or similar AI tools.
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


$117,600 - $161,700 per year


This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
