The Shift Leader's role is to manage the product, process, and people required to execute a shift. This role has supervisory and decision-making power to assign tasks to team members and respond to guest complaints. Setting shift goals and aligning processes and tasks to these goals is critical to success in this role. The Shift Leader ensures their team is meeting benchmarks for success, takes care of issues with equipment, and is responsible for closing and opening tasks. As a leader in the restaurant, the Shift Leader continuously trains and coaches team members to further develop skills and ensure procedural standards are met.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities:

  • Complete all training requirements including:
  • Zaxbys Shift Leader Development Plan
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Any additional training required by Zax LLC
  • Create a culture of high-performance and train and coach team members to meet all company standards
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members and communicate performance concerns to your General Manager
  • Prioritize the guest and team member experience and resolve complaints and concerns in a friendly and respectful manner
  • Create and maintain a positive culture and healthy team morale through recognition and leading by example
  • Communicate shift goals and motivate team members to meet goals and perform to their highest ability level
  • Delegate tasks to team members and supervise performance during a shift
  • Maintain operational standards and ensure compliance with all Zaxby's Franchising LLC and Zax LLC guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure service, product quality, and cleanliness standards are consistently upheld
  • Enhance guest experiences by ensuring that team members satisfy and exceed guest expectations
  • Receive and reconcile truck deliveries, ensure product is properly stocked, and complete daily inventory counts
  • Manage food production and quality by monitoring prepping, cooking, and holding processes and taking corrective action when necessary
  • Track food safety and quality throughout the shift and ensure guests receive accurate orders that meet company standards and guest satisfaction
  • Plan shift duties and ensure opening and closing duties are complete
  • Collaborate with management team to develop goals and report back to management on goal progress
  • Ensure processes, policies, and procedures are properly followed throughout daily operations
  • Follow company cash management policies
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and guidelines
  • Utilize management tools and keep neat, accurate, and current records
  • Maintain an attitude of flexibility that allows performance above and beyond the parameters of this position description
  • Ensure the team works safely and follows all safety guidelines and procedures
  • Immediately report all human resources and risk management concerns to your General Manager and District Manager
  • Escalate other concerns to your supervisor when appropriate
  • All other duties necessary to ensure restaurant operations function properly

Job Qualifications

The following requirements must be met to qualify for this position.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
    • Part-time: Available to work 9 to 28 hours per week
    • Full-time: Available to work 32 to 40 hours per week
  • Successful completion of background check
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, organizational skills, and ability to interact cooperatively with others
  • Follows company standards and local laws with regards to employee time punches
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
