Description
Cotton Holding's Legal Group is seeking a Litigation Paralegal who thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced, high-performing and collaborative corporate environment. This individual will work within Cotton's Corporate Legal Group, which is responsible for managing all litigation and legal matters involving any of the Cotton entities, including but not limited to managing a high volume docket of lawsuits and arbitration matters, managing outside counsel, drafting pleadings, discovery and subpoena responses and managing all aspects of both offensive and defensive litigation. This individual will work in an integrated team environment with other members of the Corporate Legal Group to facilitate the timely resolution of litigated matters.
What you'll be Doing
  • Conduct claim investigation and consult with attorneys (in-house and outside counsel) on status, progress and resolution of cases.
  • Handle all aspects of collection matters for the company with assistance from in-house counsel.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, responses, subpoenas, settlements, and all other legal pleadings and file same with the proper court or venue.
  • Draft construction lien notices and lien affidavits for work performed.
  • Work with the operations team to acquire information for litigated matters.
  • Track and report on spend, timeline and other data for litigated matters.
  • Perform some administrative duties, including maintaining a litigation calendar and organizing case files.

What You Bring to the Table
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certification is preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience Prior litigation paralegal experience in a high volume litigation environment with direct responsibility for driving matters to a successful resolution.
  • Experience with all aspects of litigation, including drafting pleadings, discovery, demand letters, correspondence, subpoena responses and more.
  • Strongly Preferred: experience with construction litigation, including liens and construction laws.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Solid grasp of the litigation process and analytical skills.
  • Strong internal and external negotiation skills.
  • Well-developed organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to distill objectives into a set of actionable activities.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems and use good business judgment.
  • High level of enthusiasm, personal sense of urgency and capacity to overcome obstacles.
  • Flexible team player who thrives in environments requiring the ability to effectively juggle multiple concurrent projects and a willingness to learn new processes and skills sets.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadlines-driven environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, and proficient in Microsoft Office and document comparison programs.
  • Exemplary personal and professional integrity and a positive attitude.
