The Board Operator is responsible for the safe and optimal operation and control of the Crude Processing plant equipment. This position requires daily troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving control system issues, and sound decision-making based on operating guidelines, procedures, and principles, while working in accordance with Texas International Refining, LLCโs Safe Work Practices.
The Board Operator will be required to maintain all products to specification, utilize established technologies and best practices, understand process chemistry, and exercise sound technical judgment. This person is responsible for executing daily business instructions provided by Management.
Roles
Responsibilities
- Ensure daily instructions from Shift Lead/Superintendent are completed
- Conduct operator rounds and record data
- Ensure products and effluent streams meet quality specifications
- Monitor unit operations and troubleshoot process issues
- Make sound decisions based on operating guidelines
- Lead safety inspections in assigned areas
- Execute safe work practices and correct unsafe conditions
- Maintain knowledge of Safe Work Practices, SOPs, and Work Permits
- Complete HESS and Process Safety checks
- Coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering teams
- Train new operators
- Must successfully qualify across all assigned process units
Requirements

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with DCS systems (DeltaV preferred)
- Minimum of 4 years of full-time console operations experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or similar industrial environment or 2-year Process Technology degree with at least 2 years of relevant operations experience
- This position is designated as safety-sensitive and requires strict adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC card
- Must possess or be able to obtain a HASC or site-specific safety credential
- Must be willing and able to participate in the site Emergency Response Team (ERT), including firefighting and emergency response duties
- Must successfully complete all required ERT training and maintain qualifications
- Must commit to serving on the Emergency Response Team (ERT) for a minimum of two (2) years
Inside Operations: Board Operations
- Monitor process parameters (temperature, flow, pressure, levels, alarms)
- Ensure production meets specifications
- Regulate or shut down equipment during emergencies
- Control the Crude Processing Unit using DeltaV
- Coordinate with outside operators to maintain safe operations
- Record operating data, production, and shift activities
Outside Operations: Process Unit
- Operate plant equipment (pumps, compressors, valves, heaters, boilers, etc.)
- Perform field inspections and monitor plant conditions
- Conduct sampling and routine testing
- Complete rounds and identify abnormal conditions
- Maintain logs and equipment records
- Perform minor maintenance and preventative maintenance
- Support troubleshooting and production optimization
- Prepare equipment for maintenance and isolation
- Generate maintenance work requests
- Use computer systems for data entry and operations
Physical Demands
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in all weather conditions
- Climb ladders and work at heights up to 100 feet
- Prolonged standing
- Work in dusty environments
- Wear respirators and required PPE
- Work a rotating 12-hour DuPont shift schedule
