Position Title: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Computer Science
Reports To: Chair, Division of Computer Science
Department: Division of Computer Science
Classification: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9-Month Faculty Appointment
POSITION OVERVIEW
Founded in 1862, LeMoyne-Owen College is a private, historically black, liberal arts institution that helps students discover and utilize their full range of capacity in their career and social life. LeMoyne-Owen College is the only Historical Black College and University (HBCU) in the city of Memphis.
The Division of Computer Science (DCS) is the newest and most rapidly growing division (formerly housed in the Division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences) at LOC. Among the earliest computing programs in Tennessee, our Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (BSCS) was recently accredited by ABET. DCS offers three bachelor's degrees: BS in Computer Science, BS in Cybersecurity, and BS in Information Technology. LOC was designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) in 2019, by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The Division of Computer Science (DCS) at LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track, open rank faculty position. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a standard load during the Fall and Spring semesters, conducting scholarly activities, advising students, and engaging in services at the division and institution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach standard load per semester in undergraduate computer science courses, which may include programming, data structures, algorithms, databases, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, operating systems, networking, and/or other areas of specialization.
  • Develop and revise curriculum, syllabi, and other instructional materials in accordance with accreditation and industry standards.
  • Maintain high-impact, student-centered teaching practices, incorporating current technologies and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Advise and mentor DCS students, including computer science, cybersecurity, and information technology majors, in both academic progress and career preparation.
  • Engage in assessment of student learning outcomes and support the maintenance and securing of accreditations, e.g., ABET, NSA CAE designation.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, presentations, and external funding solicitation, patent, commercial development.
  • Provide service to the division, college, and community, including participation in committees, recruitment events, and student organizations.
  • Maintain regular office hours and be available to students outside of class as needed.
  • Remain current in the discipline through professional development and industry engagement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Ph. D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or closely related field.
    • Expertise in at least three areas in following list. The coverage of more areas is preferred.
    • Artificial intelligence

    • Distributed and mobile computing

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry experience in computing or other IT fields.
  • Experience in teaching non-traditional and underrepresented student populations

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICIAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle, or feel to talk and to hear. The employee, frequently, is required to walk, reach with hands and arms to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
