1 Positions available for University of Manitoba Computer Science Co-op Student
Primary job focus:To develop software as a member of Niche's technical team, creating n-tier client-server software for use by law enforcement agencies. Co-op students implement internal and customer-submitted change requests that are deployed to customer implementations of NicheRMS and are used in the daily activities of law enforcement officers and support staff.
Learning opportunities:Co-op students are exposed to a cross-section of advanced techniques in RDBMS and middleware design and implementation, as well as the specifics of Windows, .NET, and Web UI application development. Students will improve their ability to write clean, re-usable, scalable code through structured code reviews and ongoing mentoring by members of the development team.
Students will also gain experience working within a very large code base (several million lines) and integrating their work into the Niche git repository. Development is performed with an industry-standard toolset, including Microsoft Visual Studio (C++, C#, the .NET platform), Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server.

Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with relational databases and UI design is advantageous but not required.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for developing modern, easy-to-use software is essential.
  • A desire to learn and improve as a developer is also crucial.
  • A routine security clearance check is required.

Because of the nature of this work and our clients,you must be able to meet the following requirements:


  • Able to obtain security clearance
  • Be a Canadian citizen or have PR status
  • Have no indictable offense/felony convictions
  • Be a student in the University of Manitoba Computer Science Co-op program.


If you don't meet the above requirements, you will not be able to acquire mandatory security clearance within co-op program timelines.
