Under general supervision, provides technical support and assistance in information systems administration, problem resolution, system testing, development, integration, and security. Assists in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining technical solutions to enhance information systems.

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Senior Systems Development Manager or Designee, the Systems Software & Integration Engineer is responsible for technical support through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Develops, maintains, performs, or assists with procedures to ensure the integrity of information systems.
  • Assists in design and coordinates with programmers to develop software solutions and integrations.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of software application subsystems, gauging the impact of system access requests and handling items such as code modification and configuration.
  • Assists with testing, deployment, maintenance of software and database applications and enhancements.
  • Works as a system analyst with key personnel to help define user needs and develop solutions.
  • Coordinates with technical and functional staff to troubleshoot application and database problems.
  • Works with technical and functional staff to analyze, design, construct and implement applications and integrations; helps determine and document business needs and requirements for upgrades and enhancements.
  • Manages moderately complex projects from start to finish, including resource planning.
  • Assists in implementing security policies & procedures, along with investigation and resolution of security incidents, to ensure a stable and secure computing environment.
  • May supervise professional staff and/or student workers.
  • Performs other duties related to those above, which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: 

  • Minimum four years of experience in design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and support of information systems in an ERP environment, preferably Ellucian Banner.
  • Hands-on experience with a currently supported version of a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) such as: Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, or Postgres using tools such as TOAD or SQL Developer.
  • Experience with one or more RDBMS development languages such as: SQL, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent.
  • Experience in one or more reporting and analytical tools such as Argos, Cognos, PowerBI, or equivalent.
  • Experience in one or more software development methodologies, data modeling, and best practices in software development.
  • Ability to take ownership and manage moderately complex projects from start to completion.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work with people of various backgrounds and at all levels of technical knowledge.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating system in a large-scale, high transactional production environment.
  • Familiarity with web development tools such as: HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap, JSON, Java, JavaScript, AngularJS and RESTful Web Services.
  • Familiarity with NodeJS, React.js and an IDE tool such as Visual Studio. 
  • Familiarity with automating batch processes using scheduling tools such as crontab, Automic or ISE (EnterpriseSCHEDULE) or comparable tools. 
  • Familiarity with, or ability to learn, portal applications, system integrations/interfaces, and Learning Management systems. Preferred platforms are the Ellucian Experience portal, Ellucian Data Connect, Ellucian Ethos, Intelligent Learning Platform (ILP), and Blackboard.
These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.Starting Salary:

Minimum Salary; $85,465 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
