Job Summary
This position is located at the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, California. Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Facilities Management, the Plumber performs the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems.
Department Summary
Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects (FPCP); and Facilities Operations. In support of the Cal Poly mission, the FMD department is committed to sustainability, responsible stewardship of natural resources, and promoting an inclusive culture that values individual and organizational integrity, civility, equity, and diversity.
Key Qualifications
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and test plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices.
  • Assemble, install and repair pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
  • Cut, thread and weld pipes.
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of a variety of metals and materials.

Education and Experience
  • One year of varied experience as a journey level plumber; and completion of a recognized apprenticeship in plumbing.
  • OR five years of varied experience installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing standard plumbing equipment. An Associate of Arts or Certificate of Arts Degree in Plumbing from an accredited community college may be substituted for two years of the required experience. (Students who are within six months of completing their degree can be admitted to the interview, but they must present evidence of completion prior to appointment .)

Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire. This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Supervisor certification for asbestos related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training as well as the ability to wear respiratory protection. A Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation is required prior to the use of a respirator.

Salary and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $73,000 - $85,000 per year
Classification Range: $57,336 - $98,580 per year
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
