Andersen Scout Camp Ranger
Northern Star Scouting is looking for a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in caring for a place that shapes young lives. This role is perfect for someone who's thoughtful, skilled with tools, and enjoys building positive relationships while maintaining and improving a treasured camp property. If you love meaningful work, fixing things, and being a trusted caretaker of a special place, this could be your next great adventure.
As the Camp Ranger at Andersen Scout Camp in beautiful Houlton, WI, on the St Croix River you will be responsible for both the on-site management and maintenance of the property. This full-time position includes a work truck, on-site housing at no cost to you, including paid utilities: 2 bedroom - 2 bathroom home with detached garage stall in the Somerset School District.
The annual compensation range for this position is $37,500 - $55,000, with most newly-hired employees starting at $40,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
Responsibilities:
  • Keep all physical property and equipment in operational condition and good appearance.
  • Perform scheduled routine maintenance.
  • Complete projects as noted on monthly and annual maintenance project lists.
  • Ensure safe operations by adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Provide strong customer service to facility and site rentals, including coordination of weekly housekeeping duties.
  • Purchase supplies as needed and within budget parameters.
  • Provide leadership to volunteers who assist at the property

Required Qualifications:
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Must be age 21 or older
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, problem solver and team leader
  • Basic maintenance skills and ability to learn and improve as required
  • Experience with commercial and residential lawn care, snowplow, chainsaws and skid steer (If no experience, then ability to quickly learn)
  • Must have working knowledge of computers and internet: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education
  • Previous camp and facilities management; camp ranger/maintenance; volunteer management
  • Experience with budget management
  • Carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills above a home-owner level
  • Scouting experience helpful but not required
