Reports to: Lead Ranger
Supervises: N/A
Position: Full-Time, Salaried
Location: Camp Dorothy Thomas (Riverview, FL), Camp Wildwood (Wildwood, FL)
Based between Camp Wildwood (Sumter County, FL) and Camp Dorothy Thomas (Riverview, FL). The primary work location will vary by week based on operational needs. The general schedule will consist of four 10-hour workdays, generally Monday through Thursday. A council vehicle and fuel are provided for travel to the two camps from the Regional Camp Ranger's home. Occasional weekend work is required to support camp operations, special events, and team needs.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Regional Camp Ranger ensures Girl Scouts of West Central Florida's camp properties are safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for our members and guests. This full-time position is based between Camp Wildwood and Camp Dorothy Thomas, with the primary work location varying by week based on operational needs. The general schedule will consist of four 10-hour workdays, generally Monday through Thursday. A council vehicle and fuel will be provided to travel to the two camps. Occasional weekend work is required to support camp operations, special events, and team needs.
Working under the supervision of the Lead Ranger, the Regional Ranger supports the maintenance and operations of Camp Wildwood and Camp Dorothy Thomas. The position follows established work plans and best practices, while also contributing new ideas and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and member experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Asset Management
  • Perform routine, preventative, and restorative maintenance across Camp Wildwood and Camp Dorothy Thomas, under the direction of the Lead Ranger and Camp Rangers.
  • Provide coverage and continuity of operations during Camp Rangers' PTO or absences.
  • Ensure safety and security of people, assets, and equipment on property while on duty.
  • Conduct regular site tours, monitoring for weather damage or vandalism, and report findings promptly.
  • Facilitate inspections and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation (e.g., pool chemical records, health inspections, cooler temperatures, SDS manuals).
  • Perform general repairs such as painting, plumbing, electrical work, screen repair, minor construction, trail clearing, road maintenance, and lawn care.
  • Clean and maintain interior and exterior facilities, equipment, and tools.
  • Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain council-owned vehicles, including service and inspections.
  • Source competitive pricing and purchase supplies and materials as needed.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including oversight of on-site work.
  • Assist with building renovations, land improvements, and major projects.
  • Enact inclement weather and emergency response plans when necessary

Customer Service
  • Partner with the outdoor program team and staff to ensure a seamless and positive customer experience for members and camp guests.
  • Support camp directors, volunteers, and staff for on-site events.
  • Supervise volunteer projects, including Girl Scout High Awards, service units, and community groups.
  • Plan and implement service days (ranger, member, and volunteer workdays).
  • Maintain updated emergency plans and communicate procedures to staff and guests.
  • Support outside user groups to ensure compliance with council and safety standards.

Business Imperatives
  • Collaborate with the Lead Ranger to develop annual goals and priorities.
  • Process payments and reconcile credit card statements.
  • Participate in team, departmental, and council-wide meetings.
  • Represent the Girl Scout brand and council to members, volunteers, and the community.
  • Complete special assignments as directed.
  • Follow GSUSA and Council policies, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Serving the Girl Scout movement requires flexibility and generosity of talent. We move at the speed of the girl, and this may require shifts in assignments, priorities, and/or schedules.

Requirements
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum five years' experience in general property maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, and grounds upkeep.
  • Availability to work a general schedule of four 10-hour workdays, generally Monday through Thursday, with occasional weekend work required to support camp operations, special events, and team needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate volunteers toward shared goals.
  • Enthusiasm for welcoming members and guests to camp.
  • Strong pride in personal and team achievement.
  • Motivation to advance the Girl Scout mission.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Spanish language skills a plus.
  • Reliable personal transportation, valid driver's license, safe driving record, and proof of insurance (CDL preferred).
  • Ability to pass a "Fitness to Work" physical evaluation.
  • Physical capability to lift at least 40 pounds, walk, bend, stoop, sit, and work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather.
