Commercial Chiller & BAS Controls Technician $35-$45 per hour , based on experience Full-Time | Panama City Beach, FL A Superior Mechanical is seeking an experienced Commercial Chiller & BAS Controls Technician to join our team in Panama City Beach. This hybrid mechanical and automation role focuses on the startup, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of large-tonnage chillers and central energy plants, including their integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS). The position combines advanced refrigeration expertise with BACnet MS/TP and BACnet/IP controls to ensure reliable equipment performance and efficient system operation.

What You'll Do

Start up, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot air- and water-cooled chillers, including centrifugal, screw, and scroll systems Work on major OEM equipment, including Trane, York, Carrier, and Daikin Service central plant equipment, including: Cooling towers Chilled and condenser water pumps Heat exchangers Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) Perform refrigerant recovery, leak testing, evacuation, and charging Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and water-flow issues Connect to and troubleshoot onboard chiller controls and microprocessors Commission and troubleshoot BACnet MS/TP and BACnet/IP networks Configure device addressing, baud rates, point mapping, alarms, trends, and sensors Troubleshoot BAS communication and network issues Assist with central plant sequencing, lead/lag operation, temperature resets, and system optimization Work with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara N4, Johnson Controls Metasys, Automated Logic WebCTRL, and Distech EC-Net What We're Looking For 5+ years of commercial HVAC/R field experience, including large-tonnage chillers 2+ years of hands-on DDC/BAS controls experience EPA Universal Certification Experience commissioning and troubleshooting BACnet MS/TP and BACnet/IP Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, ladder logic, and controls sequences Experience with VFD programming and troubleshooting Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to participate in a rotating on-call emergency service schedule Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on rooftops, ladders, aerial lifts, and in mechanical rooms Preferred Qualifications OEM factory training or certifications from Trane, York/JCI, Carrier, or Daikin Tridium Niagara 4 (N4) Certification Journeyman or Master Mechanical/HVAC License Knowledge of Modbus RTU/TCP, LonWorks, or Johnson Controls N2 What We Offer Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance - 50% employer-paid 401(k) with 4% company match Take-home company-provided vehicle and gas card Company phone, tablet, uniforms, and tool assistance 7 paid holidays annually Up to three weeks of paid vacation, depending on experience and tenure Paid training and advancement opportunities Stable, year-round work with a supportive team
