JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The QA Supervisor serves as the Shift Quality Leader for assigned manufacturing operations, ensuring consistent execution of quality requirements through production inspections, containment activities, and verification processes. This role directly supervises QA Auditors and serves as the primary quality escalation point during the shift.
The position ensures compliance with engineering specifications, manufacturing standards, customer requirements, inspection plans, and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Production, and Test teams, the QA Supervisor drives defect prevention, containment, process discipline, and continuous improvement in an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) manufacturing environment.
The QA Supervisor supports the organization's quality strategy by improving First Pass Yield, reducing defects, preventing escapes, strengthening process compliance, and promoting a culture of quality ownership across the factory.
Essential Functions
Quality Leadership & Shift Management
  • Serve as the primary Quality Leader for the assigned shift and plant.
  • Directly supervise QA Auditors and coordinate inspection activities throughout production operations.
  • Assign inspection resources based on production priorities, customer requirements, and risk.
  • Provide quality leadership support during shift start-up, daily tier meetings, and escalation reviews.
  • Ensure adequate quality coverage across all manufacturing processes.

Product & Process Conformance
  • Ensure all products conform to drawings, work instructions, specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Verify execution of in-process inspections, final inspections, and quality verification checkpoints.
  • Monitor inspection effectiveness and consistency among inspectors.
  • Enforce standardized inspection criteria and acceptance standards.

Nonconformance Management
  • Lead containment activities for quality-related production issues occurring during the shift.
  • Review and coordinate disposition of nonconforming materials, components, and assemblies.
  • Ensure timely segregation, identification, and documentation of nonconforming product.
  • Escalate significant quality concerns to Quality Control Management and Quality Engineering.

Process Compliance & Audit Readiness
  • Monitor compliance with quality procedures, inspection plans, control plans, and work instructions.
  • Conduct layered verification activities to confirm adherence to established processes.
  • Promote traceability, documentation accuracy, and QMS compliance.

Competencies
• Understanding of quality management systems and manufacturing quality principles.
• Transformer manufacturing processes and/or electrical equipment assembly is a plus.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has responsibility to manage 6-9 QA auditors.
Environment/Physical Requirements
The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department in the Office and Factory Floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with working hours from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. However, depending on workload there may be occasional longer days and occasional weekends as needed. Employee is expected to work the necessary hours to complete all tasks on time and to a satisfactory standard.
Travel
Regular travel is not required for this position.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related technical discipline and 3+ years of relevant manufacturing quality experience; or
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing quality, or a related technical field.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
