Posting Details Classification Information Classification Type EHRA Position Overview Primary Purpose of Position The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of digital media. The primary responsibilities for the position include teaching undergraduate level courses, especially in the program's mass media production concentration, including digital audio and radio, in addition to conducting research and grant writing, academic/student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure. Additionally, an ideal candidate will be expected to create courses on films and documentary production; knowledge of animation is desired for this position. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed. This is a 9-month tenure-track faculty position. Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The Department has over 430 majors. The mission of the Department is to prepare students with high quality education necessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers and to become productive citizens of their communities, the nation and the world. We cultivate diversity, interdisciplinary learning, creativity, freedom of expression, mutual respect, ethical conduct, social responsibility, and expertise in journalism and mass communication. The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members.
