About the Facility:ย Merit Health Wesley is a 211-bed acute care hospitalย locatedย in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, serving the Pine Belt region and surrounding communities. The facility is recognized for its commitment to quality, patient-centered care and offers a broad range of medical and surgical services, including cardiovascular care, orthopedics, neurology, women's services, emergency medicine, and advanced surgical programs. As the area's first accredited Chest Pain Center and the only local hospital accredited for heart failure care, Merit Health Wesley continues to invest in innovative technology and expanded specialty services to support exceptional patient outcomes.ย 

Schedule:ย Monday - Friday 7am to 5pmย 

Case Mix:ย Obstetric,ย Gynecologic, Endoscopy, Urology, Ophthalmology, General, Cardiovascular, Neuro spine. No neuro heads.ย

Responsibilities

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESย May include any and/orย all ofย the following:ย 

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIESย 

  • The MDA must function as a collaborator and team member toย accomplishย applicable goals and functions of the organization.ย 
  • Attend Medical Staff meetings and Department and Hospital Administrative meetings relating to the operation of the Department.ย 
  • Participate in administrative decision making and recommend and approve policies and procedures.ย 
  • Provide information to Hospitalย regardingย budgetary,ย administrativeย and patient care matters related to the Department.ย 
  • The MDA must act as a liaison between hospital physicians, CRNAs, staff, vendors, funding sources, and other system departments or services as needed.ย 
  • Oversee the performance of the Department, including but not limited to those contractually obligatedย performance basedย measures.ย 
  • Establish criteria for adequate staffing as applicable.ย 
  • Participate in the Hospital's quality assurance efforts as requested by the Hospital.ย 
  • Develop standards for continuity of care and case management.ย 
  • Remainย cognizantย of rules and regulation as they pertain to the American Society of Anesthesiologists and remain compliant at a local, state, and federal level.ย 
  • Deliver, monthly, a departmental status report illustrating key performance indicators pertinent to anesthesia and surgical patient throughput.ย

CLINICAL DUTIESย 

  • Ensure the availability of adequate anesthesia staffing to provide clinical, medical, and administrative leadership support throughout the organization.ย 
  • Administer anesthetic or sedation during medical procedures.ย 
  • Inform students and staff of types and methods of anesthesia administration, signs of complications, and emergency methods to counteract reactions.ย 
  • Provide medical care and consultation in many settings, prescribingย medicationย and treatment.ย 
  • Provides clinical support and patient care toย assistย the anesthesia team as applicable.ย 
  • Maintain current policies and procedures set forth byย LifeLincย and propose new and efficient policies when applicable.ย 
  • Perform clinical reviews and audits on all clinical services provided by other practitioners employed byย LifeLincย as applicable.ย 
  • Responsible for training and oversight of all clinical staff and personnel as applicable.ย 

COMMUNICATION:ย 

  • Confer and consult with Hospital administration from time to timeย regardingย the organization and management of the Departmentย in order toย enhance its public service capabilities,ย efficiencyย and quality of medical care.ย 
  • Maintain dedicated administrative office hours andย beย available by e-mail and telephone when not at the Hospital.ย 
  • Works with peers to obtain required information onย a timelyย basis and to solve outstanding issues, asย appropriate.ย 
  • Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department byย assistingย coworkers, contributingย ideasย and problem-solving with co-workers.ย

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience equivalent to:

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of medicine in anesthesia with a current license in good standing to practice in the state in which you are located.ย ย ย 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • ACLS/BLS/PALS Certificationย 
  • Comfortable practicing in a care team modelย
