Position Overview
The Distribution Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently loading cement into bulk trucks and rail cars to support cement plant distribution operations. This role operates loading systems, scales, conveyors, and control systems while ensuring accurate documentation, equipment readiness, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The Distribution Operator supports continuous plant operations through equipment inspections, basic maintenance, housekeeping, and coordination with dispatch and shipping activities.
What You'll Do
  • Load cement into bulk trucks on a daily basis and load rail cars as required to meet shipping demands.
  • Operate control panels, electrical systems, and computer interfaces to control weighing, conveying, and material discharge operations.
  • Receive customer orders, dispatch loads to carriers, and enter shipment information into computer systems.
  • Perform inspections of silos, compressors, pumps, scales, dust collection systems, and related equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs and report mechanical issues to maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records including cement samples, daily loads, operating logs, and bills of lading.
  • Prepare daily safety, equipment, and load-out documentation in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Perform daily housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
  • Stand in for the dispatcher and perform dispatch duties when required.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate and maintain loading and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow operating procedures, safety rules, and equipment instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with supervisors, drivers, and co-workers.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding equipment operation and recognize abnormal conditions.

Education & Experience
  • One (1) year of in-plant experience as a Shipping Operator I or similar role required.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience operating heavy equipment required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

Other Qualifications
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding and sometimes stressful industrial environment.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts covering 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week required.
  • Commitment to working safely and adhering to all company, plant, and MSHA safety policies.
