JOB TITLE: Controller

REPORTS TO: General Manager

SALARY RANGE: $120,000 - $140,000

SUMMARY: Serve asTriCounty FS's senior finance leader, overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, budgeting, capital planning, risk management, and administrative functions. Partner with the General Manager and Board of Directors to drive sound financial decision-making,maintainregulatory compliance, and support the organization's long-term growth and success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads all financial operations for the cooperative, including accounting, budgeting, tax compliance, cash management, inventory controls, and financial reporting.
  • Prepares and presents monthly financial results, forecasts, and key business insights to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversees annual budgeting, long-range financial planning, and 10-year capital investment plans that support the cooperative's growth and financial stability.
  • Manages external audits and ensures compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, tax filings, and internal control standards.
  • Directs inventory reconciliation and audit processes to maintain financial accuracy and operational accountability.
  • Administers patronage programs, banking relationships, lines of credit, and company insurance programs.
  • Leads workers' compensation reporting and audits, employee benefits administration, and risk management initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and development for accounting and administrative staff while fostering efficient business processes.
  • Oversees accounting systems, technology solutions, and financial programs, including prepay and deferred billing processes.
  • Maintains company records, safeguards assets, and ensures adherence to company policies, PCI compliance standards, and best financial practices.
  • Partners with the General Manager on strategic initiatives and support the cooperative's August Annual Meeting and Board activities.
  • Supervises assigned staff and reviews annually individual office staff performance during the fiscal year.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably within agriculture, manufacturing, distribution, or a related industry.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of managment experience.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and tax compliance.
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, managing audits, and overseeing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop budgets, forecasts, and long-term capital plans.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends and recommend solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to leadership teams and Boards of Directors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and experience working with accounting and financial management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and operate with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cooperative accounting, patronage programs, agricultural business operations, or multi-location organizations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements.
  • Experience overseeing employee benefits administration, workers' compensation reporting, and risk management programs.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor accounting and administrative staff.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to building positive relationships with employees, customers, business partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and provide strategic financial guidance that supports organizational goals.
  • Commitment to maintaining a professional demeanor and representing the cooperative with integrity and respect in all interactions.
