Special Education Teacher
Location: Frontier International Academy- Warren, MI
FLSA Status: Exempt | Full-Time
Reports To: Academy Principal

ABOUT GEE
Global Educational Excellence (GEE) operates a network of charter schools across Southeast Michigan focused on academic achievement and community. Our staff benefit from structured mentorship, weekly professional development, and a collaborative school culture.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction and support for students with mild to moderate disabilities, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to implement IEPs and promote inclusive education.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a special education endorsement as required by the Michigan State Board of Education
  • Candidates who do not yet hold a Michigan teaching certificate may qualify through enrollment in GEE's Career Advancement Program (CAP), which provides a supported pathway to Michigan certification. CAP eligibility is determined at the time of application.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver specially designed instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and provide co-teaching support
  • Participate in IEP, 504, and Child Study Team meetings; develop and review annual goals
  • Coordinate with paraprofessionals, therapists, and related service providers
  • Maintain legally required documentation, progress notes, and compliance records per MDE standards
  • Communicate regularly with families on student progress and home support strategies
  • Provide accommodations and modifications for assessments as outlined in each student's IEP

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and standing for extended periods. Work environment includes elevated noise levels.
