Job Description:

CROWNMetal Packaging Canada LP, Beverage Packaging Division has an opening for a
Manufacturing Equipment Mechanic at their manufacturing facility located in the Foothills Industrial Park in South East Calgary. This facility manufactures aluminum cans for the beverage industry.

This position will perform a variety of mechanical adjustments, maintenance, repairs, installation, and modification of manufacturing equipment for the production and manufacture of aluminum cans of the highest quality. Other responsibilities would include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Safety & Quality minded with willingness for excellence required in all aspects of the job
  • Ensuring optimum operation of manufacturing and facilities equipment by repairing and maintaining various items such as motors, gearboxes, pneumatic components, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems and thermal systems.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and locate sources of problems through interaction with production employees, equipment observation as well as referencing blueprints, diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions and engineering specifications.
  • Removing / dismantling defective or malfunctioning equipment, components and parts using necessary hand tools, power tools, specialty tools and equipment.
  • Adjusting functional equipment, components and parts through the use of standard and non-standard hand tools as well as any necessary specialty tools and equipment.
  • Understand and follow verbal instructions for completion of assigned tasks
  • Preventative maintenance of all production equipment
  • Assist with and learn troubleshooting of production and facilities equipment breakdowns
  • Keeps Production Supervisors/Managers informed of operational status of equipment and production issues
  • Follows standard operating procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required

Job Requirements

Must have previous experience and knowledge of production equipment and mechanical operations in a manufacturing environment.

  • Mechanical background (millwright, mechanic) and/or experience is required
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Knowledge and work history of focusing on quality and safety in every aspect of the job
  • Able to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Effective and proven communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Motivated and committed to learning
  • Must have the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds on occasion and regularly stand, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Must have attention to detail and be results driven
  • Work towards minimizing downtime while improving quality
  • Keeps work area safe, clean, and organized

This position works Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm.
