Frontend Backend Developer information

What is a frontend backend developer?

Frontend Backend Developers, often referred to as Full Stack Developers, are professionals skilled in both the client-side (frontend) and server-side (backend) aspects of web development. They design and build user interfaces, ensuring a seamless and interactive experience for users, while also managing server logic, databases, and application integration. Their broad range of expertise allows them to work on multiple layers of a web application, bridging the gap between visual design and technical functionality. This versatility makes them valuable in creating fully functional and cohesive digital products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frontend backend developer?

To thrive as a Frontend Backend Developer, you need strong proficiency in web programming languages (such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS for frontend, and Node.js, Python, or Java for backend), as well as a solid understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with frameworks (like React, Angular, or Vue for frontend and Express, Django, or Spring for backend), version control systems (like Git), and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Developer can be highly beneficial. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help you effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and address complex technical challenges. These combined skills ensure you can build, optimize, and maintain robust, scalable web applications that meet user and business needs.

How do frontend backend developers typically collaborate with designers and other developers in a project team?

Frontend Backend Developers often work closely with UI/UX designers to implement visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces based on design specifications. They also collaborate with backend specialists to ensure seamless integration between the client and server sides, often participating in code reviews and joint problem-solving sessions. Regular communication and agile methodologies, such as daily stand-ups and sprint planning, help coordinate tasks and ensure project goals are met efficiently. This collaborative environment allows developers to learn from each other and contribute to both the visual and functional aspects of web applications.

What is the difference between Frontend Backend Developer vs Web Developer?

AspectFrontend Backend DeveloperWeb Developer
Primary FocusClient-side interface and user experienceOverall website development, including both frontend and backend
Skills & TechnologiesHTML, CSS, JavaScript, UI/UX designHTML, CSS, JavaScript, server-side languages, databases
Work EnvironmentDesign and implement user interfaces, collaborate with designersBuild complete websites, integrate frontend with backend systems
CredentialsWeb development certifications, coding bootcampsSimilar certifications, broader skill set

While both roles involve web development, a Frontend Backend Developer specializes in either the client-side or server-side aspects, whereas a Web Developer often handles both areas to create complete websites.

Is a front-end backend developer a good career or backend developer?

A frontend backend developer is a role that combines skills in both client-side and server-side development, often requiring knowledge of programming languages like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and backend frameworks. It can be a good career choice due to high demand for full-stack skills, competitive salaries, and opportunities to work on diverse projects. However, it requires continuous learning and proficiency in multiple technologies to stay current in the field.

What does a frontend and backend developer do?

A frontend developer designs and implements the visual elements of a website or application that users interact with, using languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. A backend developer builds and maintains the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that support the frontend, often working with languages like Python, Java, or PHP. Both roles require collaboration and knowledge of development tools and frameworks to create functional, user-friendly digital products.

This role requires strong expertise in backend database testing, ETL validation, big-data ecosystems, performance benchmarking, and cross-system data comparison between backend outputs and frontend/UI results. The engineer will closely partner with Data Coaches, Data Analysts, DBAs, and Agile delivery teams to ensure all backend data processes meet program, architectural, and CMS compliance standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive backend data and ETL validation across big-data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and similar technologies.
  • Analyze, interpret, and validate complex CMS datasets, including Shared Systems Claims, Final Action Indicator logic, Provider data, Beneficiary data, and other data assets.
  • Validate data sourced from CMS’s Integrated Data Repository (IDR) and OnePI (Program Integrity) systems as they relate to Fraud Prevention System (FPS) downstream workflows.
  • Perform detailed backend-to-frontend comparison testing to ensure accurate and consistent data presentation between backend databases (Snowflake/PostgreSQL) and UI applications or Databricks Unity Catalog outputs.
  • Execute backend performance testing activities, including:
  • Query performance analysis and optimization recommendations
  • Benchmarking data processing times and throughput
  • Load, stress, and volume testing of backend services and data pipelines
  • Identifying and escalating performance bottlenecks in collaboration with platform and engineering teams
  • Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, DBAs, Developers, DevOps engineers, and Scrum/Kanban teams to validate data integrity and ensure optimal backend performance.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS Testing Frameworks, SDLC processes, quality standards, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Support functional UI validations when necessary to maintain end-to-end data alignment throughout the application ecosystem.
  • Independently develop, execute, and maintain detailed backend test plans, performance testing strategies, and rigorous validation scenarios with minimal oversight.
  • Create and execute API-based validation scenarios to test backend service operations and data exchanges.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, PI Planning, Sprint Reviews/Demos, and Retrospectives.
  • Support, mentor, and share subject-matter expertise with backend and functional test teams to strengthen overall quality practices.
