As a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy, our skilled professionals have successfully completed hundreds of ship repair and modernization projects for the Navy and Military Sealift Command.
We perform maintenance and modernization on all classes of major surface vessels, including CVN, CG, and DDG, as well as amphibious ships such as LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work spans a full range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability systems, supporting the readiness and mission success of the U.S. Fleet.

Position Specifics

Vigor Marine CM San Diego is currently seeking an experienced Machinery Leadman to support our operations. Qualified individual will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and processing operations as it relates to the machinery department. The qualified individual will also supervise and train employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. This position will be responsible for ensuring all work accomplished is performed in accordance with safety, quality and government standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to compose and transmit Inspection/Deficiency Report (IDR)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production operations and machinery
  • Demonstrated knowledge of US Navy/MSC/Commercial Ships and their systems
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to complete reports and logs
  • The ability to acquire a DBIDS credential is required
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is required or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and at least 1 year of supervisory experience in ship repair is desired
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment
  • May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Frequently moves throughout the shipyard
  • Works at heights and in confined spaces
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
  • Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 50 pounds
  • May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams
