Job description

Full Time Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapist in Grants, NM responsible for evaluating patients, developing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve functional independence and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patients' physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities through observation and standardized assessments
  • Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans to improve functional skills and independence
  • Provide therapeutic interventions focused on activities of daily living, mobility, and adaptive techniques
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and train patients in proper use
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on strategies for daily living and long-term recovery
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and progress reports in EMR systems
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation team members to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards
  • Participate in professional development through continuing education, workshops, and in-service training
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support patient care and department operations
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program and completion of Level I & II supervised fieldwork
  • Successful NBCOT exam completion and active New Mexico OT license (or eligibility)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification and ongoing continuing education for license renewal
  • Two years acute care experience preferred, especially in ICU, trauma, or neurology units
  • Experience assisting patients with ADLs and mobility training
  • Familiarity with hospital equipment such as lifts, splints, and adaptive devices
  • Experience with electronic medical record documentation systems
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Compassionate, patient-focused mindset
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, psychology, and OT treatment techniques
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
