Summary of the position:

The Mechanical Engineer - Sustaining Engineering is responsible for supporting existing products throughout their lifecycle by resolving production, supplier, and field issues; driving product quality, reliability, and cost improvements; and supporting new product introductions. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot technical issues, implement engineering changes, improve manufacturability, and ensure products meet customer, quality, and business objectives.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support existing products by resolving production, test cell, supplier, field, and customer issues to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Provide timely engineering support to Manufacturing, Quality, Customer Service, Procurement, and Supply Chain by resolving technical issues, conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and minimizing production downtime.
  • Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining product performance, quality, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, and engineering changes, ensuring accuracy, configuration control, and timely implementation.
  • Support sourcing initiatives by evaluating the technical feasibility of new components, alternate suppliers, and engineering changes.
  • Represent Sustaining Engineering on New Product Development (NPD) projects by participating in design reviews, component selection, manufacturability assessments, and successful product launches.
  • Manage assigned projects and engineering activities by meeting deadlines, communicating project status, and escalating technical issues or risks as needed.
  • Travel up to 5% to support suppliers, manufacturing facilities, customer sites, field investigations, and product validation activities.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (required).

Professional experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment and/or product engineering.
  • 3D modeling/CAD experience desired. Proficiency in Siemens NX is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP ERP/PLM systems is a plus.
  • Experience with industrial rotating equipment is a plus.
