What is a from home retired RN?

From Home Retired RNs are registered nurses who have retired from traditional clinical roles but continue to work or volunteer remotely. Many retired RNs choose these flexible roles to stay engaged in healthcare, supplement their income, or contribute to their community without the demands of in-person clinical work.

What types of remote work opportunities are commonly available for retired registered nurses?

Retired RNs working from home often find opportunities in roles such as telephone triage, case management, medical coding, utilization review, or health coaching. These positions typically involve assessing patient needs, coordinating care, or providing guidance over the phone or via digital platforms rather than direct, hands-on care. The work environment is generally structured, with set schedules and collaboration via virtual meetings or secure messaging with healthcare teams. This setup allows retired RNs to leverage their clinical expertise while enjoying the flexibility and comfort of working remotely.

Job description

Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) – Home Care
Family Pride Private Home Care is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) to provide clinical oversight for clients receiving personal care services from our CNAs throughout Rhode Island.
This is an ideal opportunity for an RN looking to earn additional income while maintaining a full-time nursing position. The schedule is highly flexible and can be arranged around your existing work schedule.

Compensation: $40.00 per hour
Hours: Typically 4–10 hours per week
Schedule: Flexible / self-scheduled based on client needs
Location: Rhode Island – community/home-based visits
Position: Part-time
Responsibilities
The RN will primarily be responsible for:
  • Conducting initial nursing assessments for new clients receiving personal care services.
  • Developing and documenting appropriate plans of care based on each client's needs.
  • Conducting required quarterly supervisory visits/assessments for clients receiving personal care from CNAs.
  • Providing clinical oversight and supervision related to personal care services.
  • Assessing client status and identifying changes that may require updates to the plan of care.
  • Reviewing CNA performance and ensuring personal care is being provided appropriately and according to the client's care plan.
  • Communicating significant changes or concerns to Family Pride's care management team.
  • Completing required clinical documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Helping ensure services remain consistent with Rhode Island home care requirements and Family Pride policies.
Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Rhode Island Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in clients' homes.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally within Rhode Island.
  • Home care, geriatrics, dementia care, or community nursing experience is preferred but not required.
Why This Position Works Well for a Full-Time RN
This is not a traditional nursing shift position. Most weeks require approximately 4–10 hours, and visits can generally be scheduled around the RN's primary employment.
It can be a great fit for an RN who works three 12-hour shifts, evenings, weekends, or another full-time schedule and would like a small, consistent source of additional nursing income without committing to another fixed shift schedule.
Pay is $40 per hour.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: Approximately 4–10 per week
