Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Customs Broker with extensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, some trade compliance, and import operations. - Ocean and Air.
The ideal candidate will have experience with CargoWise, strong expertise in customs entry processing, government agency compliance, tariff classification, and a deep understanding of the global logistics industry. This role requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can work independently, think critically to solve complex issues, and successfully manage key customer accounts.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate customs entries using Cargo Wise platform.
  • Analyze commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and supporting documents to ensure compliance with CBP regulations.
  • Classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and the understanding of duties, taxes, tariffs, and fees.
  • Process and coordinate entries involving all applicable Participating Government Agencies (PGAs), including:
    • FDA (Food and Drug Administration)
    • USDA (United States Department of Agriculture)
    • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
    • FCC (Federal Communications Commission)
    • Fish & Wildlife Service
    • DOT/NHTSA (Department of Transportation)
    • CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission)
  • Manage and service key customer accounts, ensuring high levels of responsiveness, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify and resolve shipment delays, customs hold, examinations, and compliance concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with importers, customs officials, carriers, steamship lines, overseas agents, and government agencies.
  • Monitor ocean import shipments from arrival through final release and delivery.
  • Resolve customs discrepancies, classification issues, valuation concerns, and duty-related matters.
  • Maintain complete and accurate shipment records in accordance with CBP regulations and company standards.
  • Stay current on changing customs regulations, tariffs, trade agreements, and logistics industry trends.
  • Support operational efficiency through process improvement initiatives and creative problem-solving.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of Import Entry Writing experience in a customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or logistics environment.
  • Working knowledge of CargoWise.
  • Extensive experience handling Ocean & Air Import shipments.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, import procedures, and trade compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience processing entries for multiple government agencies and PGA-regulated commodities.
  • Thorough understanding of tariff classification, customs valuation, duty assessment, and trade compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of current tariff programs and their impact on imports across multiple industries.
  • Excellent industry knowledge related to international transportation, customs brokerage, ocean freight operations, and supply chain logistics.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of productivity and accuracy.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills with the ability to think outside the box and develop solutions to complex customs and logistics challenges.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
