Status: Full-time/Exempt

Reports to:Division Controller

Work Schedule: M-F (flexible hours)

Compensation: $110,000-120,000 per year

This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends on applicants credentials.

Overview:

The Project Controller plays a vital role in overseeing key financial functions within the company, including the management of accounts payable and receivable. This position involves significant responsibility in planning, organizing, and directing the accounting operations to ensure compliance with GAAP, statutory, and legal requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Project Controller supervises all job costs and job revenue. They are responsible for ensuring we are billing in compliance to the contract as well as allocating costs correctly.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, coordinates, and directs the efficient and safe operation of a team; ensures compliance with all applicable GAAP rules, statutes, and legal requirements.
  • Takes direction from the Division Controller and incorporates company objectives into their vision for each year.
  • Trains and mentors the team; provides developmental opportunities and stretch assignments, ensuring the long-term sustainability of their department and the functions they operate.
  • Supports all Project Accounting Staff within Utilitra as well as for Utilitra's client companies; prepares and verifies information, responds to customer questions, and offers insight when issues arise related to areas of expertise.
  • Provides feedback to Division Controller to assist in production of performance evaluations for the team.
  • Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial information sent to vendors, financial institutions, banks, insurance companies, or other stakeholders on behalf of the company or its customers.
  • Review and assess the work in progress schedule to verify we are capturing all cost and revenue in accordance with GAAP.
  • Support Project Accounting Staff and Division Controller in Accounts Receivable collection efforts.
  • Mentor and train others.
  • Ensure team is in compliance with job contract requirements.
  • Become subject matter expert on Viewpoint, Vista Web, and Pvault.
  • Reconcile accounts with customer's systems to ensure accuracy.
  • Become subject expert in storm restoration requirements.
  • Collaborates with others to gather information and provide data and support related to the field of expertise.
  • Special projects & other duties as assigned.
  • Cross-train in all facets of Accounting, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and to grow in responsibility and scope over time.

The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at other Utilitra-sponsored events.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Accounting required.
    • Masters or CPA preferred.
  • Expertise in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable imperative.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and legal requirements of accounting and finance.
  • Vista Viewpoint experience helpful.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in the Construction Industry preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extensive reading of both written figures and words, typed reports, and computer screens.
  • Data entry up to six (6) hours per day.
  • Phone communication approximately one (1) hour per day.
  • Sitting for prolonged periods in meetings can be four (4) or more hours each day.
  • Communicating verbally with other staff, contractors, vendors, and customers continually.
  • Moving between meetings and buildings to communicate with customers, usually less than one (1) hour per day.
  • Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional stooping, reaching, or bending.

Travel Requirements:

This role does not require any travel.
