Job description

General Manager — PatchMaster of Chicago's North Shore

Location: Chicago and The North Shore — Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Northbrook, Glenview, Deerfield, Lake Forest and nearby communities

Type: Full-time

Reports to: Owner

Compensation: $60,000–$80,000 base + $25,000–$40,000 performance bonus (paid quarterly)

About Us

PatchMaster of Chicago's North Shore is a specialty drywall, plaster, and painting company. We handle the work most contractors pass on: holes, cracks, water damage, flood cuts, ceiling repair, plaster restoration, texture matching, and the painting that finishes the job. Our customers are homeowners, property managers, restoration firms, plumbers, HVAC and GCs who need a repair done right and done quickly.

We're a small team, and this role has a lot of say in how the business runs.

The Role

We're hiring a General Manager to run our day-to-day business — the crews, the schedule, the estimates, and the numbers. It's a hands-on role that splits time between the office and the field, so you'll be on job sites and in customers' homes regularly.

It's a good fit for someone who's been running part of a services or trades business and is ready to take on the whole thing.

What Your Week Looks Like

No two weeks are identical, but most of them include some mix of the following:

  • Getting back to homeowners and property managers who've reached out, and setting up visits
  • Meeting customers at their homes to look at the damage and talk through what the repair involves
  • Putting together estimates and sending quotes
  • Building the schedule and making sure crews have what they need
  • Checking in on jobs in progress and on finished work you're proud to put our name on
  • Bringing on new techs, painters, and subs as the work grows, and helping them get up to speed
  • Building relationships with restoration companies, property managers, plumbers, contractors and others in the community who send work our way
  • Looking at how jobs came out financially and where we can do better

You won't be doing all of this alone, and you won't be expected to have it figured out on day one. The owner is available and involved, and we'll sort out together what you take on first.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience running a residential services, trades, or construction operation — drywall, painting, restoration, remodeling, roofing, plumbing, HVAC, or similar
  • Some responsibility for a budget or P&L
  • Estimating experience: you can walk a job and price it well
  • Experience hiring and managing crews or subcontractors
  • Good with people, in person and on the phone, and comfortable in a customer's home
  • Comfortable with everyday software — we use Jobber for scheduling and quotes
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation

Nice to have

  • Hands-on drywall, plaster, painting, or finish carpentry knowledge
  • Experience with insurance or restoration work
  • Existing North Shore relationships with property managers, GCs, or restoration firms
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Franchise or multi-unit experience
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary of $60,000–$80,000, depending on experience
  • Performance bonus tied to revenue and margin, paid quarterly
  • Room to grow as the territory grows

PatchMaster of Chicago's North Shore is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
