Serves as an expert clinician and resource nurse in the care of wound, ostomy, and continence patients. Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and nursing leaders in setting and maintaining standards for this patient population. Oversees and provides education and training to the nursing staff on wound/ET matters, and is an active member of the Palomar Health wound care team. Additionally, functions as an active member of the interdisciplinary rounds team to identify patients at risk for skin integrity problems and discharge learning needs, and coordinates follow up to these needs. Oversees and monitors specialty bed utilization across the continuum. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process to provide care to children, adult, and geriatric patients. Functions within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act while following all of the Health System's established policies and procedures. Responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts and mobilization and shall participate as needed in patient handling. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.
