The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Network Engineer to join the Information Technology team. Reporting to the Director of Network Engineering, this position is responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and supporting the University's enterprise network and voice infrastructure.

This role supports a hybrid environment, combining remote administrative responsibilities with on-campus work primarily based in Daytona Beach, Florida, assisting with network implementation, maintenance, and operational support across campus data centers and communication systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in enterprise network environments using Cisco and/or Aruba technologies, with strong knowledge of routing, switching, wireless networking, firewalls, load balancing, and secure network architecture. Experience in hybrid or cloud-connected enterprise environments is highly desirable.

Successful candidates are analytical, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement. They communicate effectively, collaborate across technical teams, and provide high-quality customer service while supporting strategic IT initiatives. Preferred certifications include CCNP, Aruba Certified Switching Professional (ACSP), or equivalent advanced networking credentials.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Support

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve critical network performance and functionality issues

  • Provide timely updates to management on outages and incidents

  • Enforce operational policies and procedures to ensure high availability and reliability

  • Respond to work orders and maintain accurate documentation in help desk systems

  • Provide hands-on support for daily voice and data network operations

  • Ensure IT equipment complies with industry standards and best practices

  • Provide alternative solutions when necessary

Network Design & Infrastructure Projects

  • Participate in planning and implementation of infrastructure projects

  • Design and develop network strategies and management practices

  • Evaluate network changes and assess impact across campus systems

  • Install, maintain, and support large-scale LAN/WAN and telecom services

  • Coordinate low-voltage connectivity for campus construction projects

Collaboration & Technical Consultation

  • Collaborate with IT teams for troubleshooting, system configuration, and support

  • Provide consulting, problem resolution, and needs analysis for stakeholders

  • Support application and infrastructure integration efforts

Planning & Governance

  • Attend IT meetings, briefings, committees, and task forces

  • Contribute to strategic and operational planning across IT departments

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Perform additional responsibilities in support of departmental and institutional needs.

This is a hybrid position based in Daytona Beach that requires occasional on-campus work. Ideally, candidates should reside within approximately one hour of campus to accommodate in-office responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • 5+ years of experience in the design, operations, troubleshooting, and administration of enterprise Cisco or Aruba network environments (LAN, WAN, Wireless, Firewalls)

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the configuration and management of Cisco or Aruba network infrastructure

  • Strong working knowledge of network test and diagnostic equipment

  • Expert-level understanding of Layer 2 technologies (e.g., Spanning Tree Protocol, 802.1Q, LACP)

  • Expert-level knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF)

  • Experience with network monitoring and telemetry tools (SNMP, NetFlow, sFlow, etc.)

  • Extensive knowledge of Internet and IP-based services (DHCP, DNS, etc.)

  • Experience supporting voice network systems and protocols (VoIP, RTP, SIP)

  • Working knowledge of Avaya IP telephony administration

  • Understanding of structured cabling standards, including copper and fiber optic environments

  • Experience with cloud networking concepts and administration (Azure, AWS, GCP)

  • Ability to plan, implement, and support technical initiatives in a complex enterprise or higher education environment

  • Strong understanding of current IT networking and telecommunications trends and best practices

  • Excellent customer service skills with a professional and solution-oriented approach
