Position & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized music therapy sessions for hospice patients based on their unique needs, preferences, and goals.
  • Utilize a variety of music therapy techniques, including live music interventions, guided imagery, songwriting, and improvisation, to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual aspects of care.
  • Assess patients' responses to music therapy interventions and modify treatment plans as needed to optimize therapeutic outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to integrate music therapy into the plan of care, ensuring coordination and continuity of services for patients receiving hospice care.
  • Provide education and support to patients, families, and caregivers on the benefits of music therapy and techniques for using music as a coping mechanism during end-of-life transitions.
  • Document patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes in accordance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and in-service trainings to enhance collaboration and professional development.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in music therapy from an accredited program.
  • Board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) credential from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a music therapist, with specific experience in hospice, palliative care, or healthcare settings preferred.
  • Proficiency in playing a variety of musical instruments and vocal techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, with sensitivity to the unique needs of individuals facing end-of-life challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel to patients' homes, nursing facilities, and hospice care centers as needed.
