What is a from home microcontroller job?

'From Home Microcontroller' jobs involve designing, programming, and testing microcontroller-based systems remotely. Professionals in these roles typically work with embedded systems, writing code (often in C or C++) that runs on microcontrollers for applications such as IoT devices, automation, or other electronics projects. These jobs require a good understanding of electronics, firmware development, and often remote collaboration with hardware or product teams. Working from home allows microcontroller engineers to prototype and test using development kits and simulators, communicating with teams via online tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a microcontroller engineer working from home?

To thrive as a Microcontroller Engineer working from home, you need strong knowledge of embedded systems, programming languages like C/C++, and experience with microcontroller architectures, typically supported by a degree in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with development environments (e.g., Arduino IDE, MPLAB, Keil), debugging tools, and version control systems like Git is essential. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear remote communication skills help you collaborate effectively and manage projects independently. These skills are crucial for delivering reliable embedded solutions and meeting project goals in a remote work setting.

What are some common challenges faced by remote microcontroller engineers when working from home, and how can they be overcome?

Remote microcontroller engineers often face challenges such as limited access to specialized hardware, difficulty in debugging without on-site tools, and potential communication barriers with team members. Overcoming these issues typically involves utilizing remote desktop solutions, investing in personal development boards or simulators, and maintaining regular, clear communication through collaborative platforms. Many teams also schedule virtual stand-ups and use shared repositories for code and documentation to ensure smooth workflow and knowledge sharing.

Software Development for Hardware Products

Kalogon, a smart seating startup based in Melbourne, seeks a React Native Software Developer to help us ensure our software applications (iOS & Android) meet the needs of our customers who use our connected hardware products across all of our product lines. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with hardware products, understanding & contributing to overall software architecture, and be nimble & collaborative across teams.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Contribute to the mobile codebase end-to-end for iOS and Android.
    • Maintain and lightly extend our existing React Native (TypeScript).
    • Work with our team to develop new apps to supersede legacy solutions.
  • Define long-term architecture.
    • Make the structural decisions today that keep the app healthy, performant, and extensible for years.
    • Focus on dependency-light, performant, and maintainable designs.
  • Integrate with hardware over BLE.
    • Handle pairing, data transfer, and OTA updates with reliability and clear user feedback.
  • Design and build great experiences.
    • Work closely with Product, Marketing, and Design to ship polished, cohesive UI/UX.
  • Collaborate
    • Work within a small engineering team, mentor peers, and communicate trade-offs to non-engineers.
Must-Have Experience
  • 7+ years professional software development, including multi-year stewardship of at least one shipped product.
  • React Native & TypeScript (enough to debug, patch, and ship updates).
  • Mobile UX / UI: proven track record of designing and delivering polished interfaces on iOS and/or Android.
  • Project Architecture: demonstrated ability to make foundational technical choices that scale over multiple releases.
  • BLE: practical experience with Bluetooth Low Energy on either platform.
  • Cross-team collaboration: turning feedback from marketing, sales, and design into product improvements.

You must share examples of past work (github repos, downloadable apps, etc.) to apply. If itโ€™s not your best, feel free to add disclaimers. Please include at least one with source code for us to review. Provide concrete examples (screens, code, or portfolio) that show your design sensibilities.

Nice-to-Have
  • Rust โ€” especially if youโ€™ve used Rust for mobile via Rust-based UI toolkits or shared libraries.
  • C, C++, Python for misc tooling and project context.
  • Native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin/Java) modules and bridging.
  • Embedded / microcontroller firmware exposure (OTA workflows, BLE GATT design).
  • HIPAA certification or experience with HIPAA compliance.
Employment Details
