Day Kimball Health is hiring for a Phlebotomist for Lab Department as a part time Per Diem All Shifts job in Putnam, CT.

As the Phlebotomist, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for…
Obtains blood specimens from all ages of patients using both venipuncture and micro-techniques. The obtained tube/specimen type is appropriate for the testing ordered by the physician. Instructs patients to collect urine as ordered either using chain of custody, sterile or non-sterile technique, and collect throat cultures. Has total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.
Phlebotomist Job Responsibilities:
  • Obtains blood specimens from variety of patient types either inpatient, outpatient homebound, physician office or nursing home patients using either micro or venipuncture techniques. Identifies patient correctly using latest procedures/policies. Patient’s full name and date of birth
  • Ability to register and order test when needed.
  • Reviews requisition and decides which tubes to draw to obtain appropriate specimens to complete physician’s order. Reviews requisition and generated labels for accuracy and initial all tubes. Accounts for tourniquet at completion of venipuncture procedure.
  • Assesses patient to determine method or procedure to maximize integrity of specimen, using a discard tube when needed and racking all serum tubes.
  • Provides instruction to patients when setting up tolerance testing or collecting appropriate urine specimens.
  • Instructs/trains students or UR/PCTs from the ED in order that phlebotomy in the ED be completed by ED staff.
Phlebotomist Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Education: Graduation and certification from approved phlebotomy program or recognized certifying agency is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of current liability insurance as well as reliable vehicle required
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in a hospital lab preferred.
Phlebotomist Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skills with techniques of venipuncture and micro-puncture technique.
  • Knowledge of Infection control and OSHA requirements to protect self.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including but not limited to, order entry, inquiry and specimen tracking.
  • Excellent communication skills including telephone, written correspondence and speaking.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and those regulations relating to the use of biohazards.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
